Tesla Model X, Lucid Gravity Or Rivian R1S: Which Three-Row Electric SUV Is A Better Buy?

According to a recent survey by AutoPacific, nearly half of all future three-row SUV shoppers would consider purchasing one that’s specifically electric. Several EV companies offer options including Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:RIVN), and Lucid Group Inc. (NASDAQ:LCID).

But which to buy?

Comparing 3 SUVs And Their Starting Prices

Tesla’s three-row SUV offering is its Model X starting at $79,990 with an estimated range of 329 miles.

Meanwhile, Rivian offers the R1S SUV, starting at $75,900 for the base version while Lucid has recently started manufacturing the premium variant of its Gravity SUV starting at $94,900.

All three vehicles can seat up to 7 adults. While from a price perspective, the Rivian R1S might seem like a great buy, the base variant of the vehicle only offers a range of 270 miles.

The Gravity, however, has only one variant available as of today. While the company is planning yet another cheaper variant, it will only be available to order next year.

Range Comparison:

For drivers looking for the most range, the Lucid Gravity offers the most ease of mind among its counterparts with 450 miles of range.

The Model X has an EPA-estimated range of up to 329 miles while R1S has a maximum range of 410 miles. However, 410 miles of range is available only with the R1S Dual variant coupled with a max battery pack with a starting price of $89,900.

Performance:

The best option for a customer depends on what they expect out of their vehicle.

For customers looking for fast acceleration, the Model X can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, and the R1S Tri in 2.9 seconds.

For those looking for the most power, the Model X Plaid would be the best option with 1,020 horsepower. Gravity has up to 828 hp and the R1S Tri variant has up to 850 hp.

Alternate Cheaper Option: Tesla also offers buyers another three-row SUV option in its cheaper Model Y. While the Model Y comes with a five-seat interior included, buyers of the long-range all-wheel drive variant of the vehicle can pay an extra $1000-$2000 for seven-seat interiors.

The Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant of the Model Y has a starting price of $47,990, meaning an added $2000 for seven-seat interiors would take the price up to $49,990.

However, the Model Y is smaller in length and width than the company’s premium SUV Model X, implying that the third row would be relatively more cramped for buyers looking for third-row comfort.
